We sat down to chat with Tommy Smythe about why he chose his coffee table and why it works.
Style at Home: How do you choose what style and size of coffee table to use in a room?
TS: Well, certainly the size of the room itself and the other furniture in the space will dictate how large a coffee table you can have, but my rule is to go as big as you can! For traffic flow around a coffee table, you only need between 18 to 20 inches – you don’t want the table too far away from your furniture because you’re going to have to put your drink down at some point. I also like a lot of surface area. I love my stuff, and I want it close at hand.
S@H: Your take on coffee tables versus ottomans?
TS: I’m not opposed to the ottoman, but I think it belongs in a very specific place, like in a family room or a recreation-type environment rather than in a formal living room. I also Read more…
In between the raindrops recently, I did some flower shopping at Hewitt’s with my poodle Lulu. I took some fab pictures and managed to pick up a few hyrdrangeas for my yard, at $25 a pop. Everyone seemed to have a cart load full of gorgeous flowers. How are you planning your garden this year? Which flowers are your favorite? Mine are hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and delphinium. Enjoy the pics! The flowers all vary in prices, but these range between $12.99 and $25. Hewitt’s is at 1969 Western Ave, 456-7954

The Bare Light in it’s translucent simplicity is stunning, a grouping of those would be so nice. Read more about Brendan after the jump.

Tip 1: Go for texture
“I believe that every room should include elements with different textures. Choose furniture and accessories in various finishes — glass, wood, metal or lacquer — to give the room depth and make it feel collected, not matched.” -Tamara Robbins Griffith

Much has been written about the “internet of things.” Right now, not every human being has an IP but in the very near future, low cost smart chips will be added to every device to give it an IP address and everything in one’s life will become part of your private secure network to be monitored and controlled (and hence become smart) via a smartphone, tablet or PC.
Earlier this week, Dutch-based NXP Semiconductors announced its GreenChip, which for the cost of about US$1.00, enables every light bulb to have its own wireless IP address.
