Memory foam mattress is made up of polyurethane. Along with polyurethane, other chemicals are also used in its preparation. The main motive of adding these chemicals to the mattress is to increase its density. Memory foam mattress is also known as polyurethane foam. The mattress was developed to meet the demand of the mattress shoppers.
Its history was traced back from NASA’s research center. NASA believed that the foam mattress should be used to conform to the shape of the body. Though creating a mold for the body can help to solve the problem, the person would eventually move out of the position.
For memory foam, synthetic polyurethane foam material is used. The mattress manufacturers will add different types of chemicals to change the density of the foam. Once the chemical is added, the foam will have greater density. Besides, the manufacturer will add a visco elastic foam material. The visco elastic foam is non toxic. The foam weight is determined by how much chemicals are used in the process of manufacturing of the foam. Most memory foam mattress has a weight a 4 – 5lb. Lighter memory foam mattress weight in range between 2 – 3 lb.
The quality of the foam mattress is measured by several factors which include ILD rating, resiliency and etc. The Indentation load deflection is a rating that is used to identify or measure the hardness of the material. Those mattress which have higher ILD rating are firmer, and memory foam mattresses with lower ILD rating are able to reduce the pressure points. Along with it, those mattresses which are too sot are not good for the human body. The resilience rating is used to find how many rebound of a steel bound on the mattress is used. By getting high resilience you will get high durable memory foam mattress.
